people saw racism go from bad to worse during the depression blacks and people fro other ethnic groups within society suffer to the extremes because whatever little help there was out there it was definitely not given to them they were the first to get fired from jobs and were often in the lower social classes so were the last to get help. they were also still treated bad by the whites in society so things did not get better for them.

The tone that Ganes uses in this novel, is one of awareness. He is trying to make the readers see that racism in the south affects a person's self worth. He uses the tone of awareness to wake people up to the pain racism causes.
Oprah did face racism because when she went to Swiss, a clerk of the store wouldn't show her a bag Oprah wanted to see. The clerk said it was too expensive for her to afford. [the clerk said blacks couldn't afford anything at all.]
In my honest opinion I feel that Martin Luther King faced racism by looking at the situation in a different light. Yes, whites did not like blacks and yes there was a lot of violence, but I think he turned to God and with God's help he saw through the racism. He encouraged others to protest without violence and try to find a peaceful means to end the racism. He went to jail fighting for what he believed in. I think to be honest this is an opinion question to some like it is to me. This is how I see he faced racism.

People do not always call it racism. Just because there are a few who pull the race card no matter what does not mean it is the whole of any race or of people. Usually, the media will pay more attention to the ones who see it as racism, even when it's not, than pay attention to those who don't see it as racism at all. So, it can look as if everyone is on board with it when they are not.
