You can check for any fluid leak around the shock.Additional informationIf they are in need of replacing it is a good idea to also replace the upper strut mounts at the same time. I had one fail 5 months after replacing the struts, wasn't pretty.
Really easy, remove all the top bolts in engine compartment ,then disconnect bottom of strut. Now jack vehicle up and let the strut slide out.
I found it. It is 65 to 95 Foot Pounds of Torque for the bottom bolts.
To change the front strut it is not hard at all. Simply remove the tire, remove the break, remove the bottom bolts from the strut. Then remove the top bolt from the strut. Usually takes about 20-40 minutes to remove. Replacing is very simple as well. However, the front strut replacement will require a front-end alignment to be completed.
The 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis does not have front shocks. The Mercury has front struts. Compress the strut spring with a spring compressor. Remove the strut retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new front struts.
To replace the front struts on a 2000 model Hyundai Sonata, you will first need to remove the tires. There will be 3 nuts on top of the strut mount. You will need to remove the 2 bolts that connect from the strut to the knuckle. Then you will need to remove the ABS sending unit as well as the front brake hose. Once these components are removed, you can remove the strut. In order to remove the strut, you will need a special tool to compress the spring. Once the struts are removed, you can safely replace them with new struts.
how do you remove the rear struts/shocks on 2002 hyundai sonata.
The front struts on a Mercury Sable are replaced by jacking up the vehicle, removing the wheels, and supporting the vehicle on jack stands. The retaining bolts can then be removed, the struts taken out, and new struts put in place.
First, Take off the front tire. then remove the brake caliper, remove the brake disc, undo the bolts connecting the strut to the lower control arm, undo the bolts under the hood and remove. use spring compressors to get new one on and do the rest in reverse order.
open the hood and on each side there will be a circular hole with a screw sticking out but on the sides there will be 2 bolts on one side and one on the other side. remove the 3 bolts. take off the tire and you will see that the strut has 2 bolts to undo it from the control arm. just take out those bolts and pop in the new struts and tighten the bolts back on.

Jack the vehicle up to relive tension off of the suspension. The undo the 3 bolts from the top that release the struts.
1996 Explorers do not have front struts. They use torsion bars as springs that require special tools to remove and conventional shock absorbers that are easy to remove.
RemovalDisconnect the battery negative cable.Loosen the four strut mounting bolts in the engine compartment several turns. Do not remove yet.Place the vehicle on jack stands.Remove the front wheels.Remove the brake line from the clip on the front strut. At the bottom of the strut, there are two bolts which attach the front strut to the spindle assembly. The top bolt is an eccentric bolt which provides for adjustment of the wheel camber. Using a paint pen, scribe, or brightly colored nail polish, mark the orientation of the eccentric bolt to the strut.Remove the eccentric bolt and bottom retaining bolt from the bottom of the strut.Pull the strut away from the spindle until it is free from the bottom of the assembly.Hold the strut while removing the four mounting bolts at the top of the strut. Remove strut from the vehicle. If the strut is to be replaced, note the orientation of the eccentric bolt alignment mark from Step six and transfer that mark to the new strut
CAREFULLY! VERY CAREFULLY; You will need a spring compressor; Lift car,Remove 2 bolts on lower strut, Remove 3 bolts on top mount, Remove complete strut-spring-top mount from car. Compress spring CAREFULLY, Remove top mount. REPLACE STRUT. Hint before you remove the two bottom bolts paint or mark location, this way you can put it back close to orignal location, But you will still need a front-end alignment. Be CAREFUL
first remove the bottom section by depressing the two orange catches at the front of the seat lift up and remove ,the rear section is bolted at the bottom of the seat, remove bolts and lever seat upwards.

Compress the strut spring with a spring compressor. Be very careful as the spring requires several hundred pounds of pressure to be compressed. Remove the top and bottom strut bolts. Reverse the process to install the new strut.
Move the front seat forward and remove the bolt covers on rear of seat bottom, Remove the 2 torx head bolts, unplug connector, and push bottom upward and lift to unhook front track and lift out of car
You have to take the battery out and remove bolts at the top of the reservoir. Then you have to remove the plastic pins inside the front left wheel well to allow you access to the bottom of the reservoir. There are bolts on the bottom to remove as well. You have to remove the hoses from the washer pumps and the reservoir should slide out thru the wheel well.

I found you have to remove the upper intake manifold, to get to two size 15mm bolts on top bracket. Then there are three bolts on the bottom of bracket. You will have to lift and support front of the car. Bolts must be taken off from bottom. Then the bracket slide towards passenger side of car.
First you must remove the cross support. This is across the front/top of radiator and is in your way. It is only four bolts. They all face up. Two on left, two on right. Secondly remove the two coolant hoses ( top left/bottom right) and the two transmission lines (right side top and bottom). Third remove the two bolts holding the radiator in (top left and right). These all face towards the front of the car. Now you can move the radiator, electric fans and a/c condensor around some. Fourth remove the four bolts that hold the a/c condensor to the radiator ( two on the right top/bottom, two on the left top/bottom). These four bolts face towards the front of the car. The top two you can get from above, the bottom two you will have to get at through the front of the bumper. Fifth remove the electric fans. Four bolts facing the engine. Top/ bottom left/right. You can now remove the radiator. Before putting the new one in remove and replace all of the bolt clips. There will be 10. Also replace the bushings at the top radiator bolts and the bottom and make sure that the old ones are goen or the radiator won't fit. That is it. When you remove the radiator from the car there are 4 bolts that you have to go trough the bumper to get to because they are connected to the air conditioning condenser. there is then two bolts to the frame at the top. and you have to remove the crossmember that has the hood latch on it to pull it out. that's how I got mine out (hope it's the same).
the front has 4 bolts on each side 2 in front and 2 in back seat the bottom half you push it the lift up and the top half has two bolts then it comes off
