replacing the starter is relatively simple, what do is remove the wires from the starter solenoid which is located on top of the starter motor, and mark where the wires came from, there is a small terminal then there is a bigger terminal. oh and un hook the battery before that because it's an unpleastant surprise. then using a jack support the starter before the bolts are removed, then remove the bolts, which in most cases are 15mm, then lower the jack with the starter and put the new one one the jack. raise the jack and hook everything back up. get the starter secured and hook the wires up then the battery and turn it over. jeremy aka ccz5105
Starter doesn't need to be replaced unless it went bad. Take the vehicle to Autozone, Oreilly, or any auto part store that offers free battery/starter/alternator testing service, and they can tell you if starter is going bad. I assume you are having problem starting the car. If that's the case, check battery first, then starter and alternator. I have a 2001 Prizm and starter died on me at 40000 miles, which seems awfully early. Replaced with a remanufacture one from Autozone and has worked since, car is at 100k miles now.

There is a sticker on the inside of the trunk lid that has that information.
It could be the battery. If not try tapping the starter with a hammer. Not hard enough to crack the housing but hard enough that it might unstick the starter from the flywheel. If this works you might want to change the starter. If not it would have to be the solenoid.
It's attached to the starter.
The starter and solenoid are mounted together on the bottom front side of the engine
