Not sounding like a smart a$$ but it is a costly repair and not easy.My daughter has a 2000 Jetta and she had an estimate from a VW dealership (We are from Pa.)..They told her around $1300.00-$1500.00...We had a print out of the things they said needed done, labor involved and the charge to remove the old freon from the system etc..I was with my daughter and just laughed at the guy..He also gave her an estimate for front struts of $850. I know that is of the track but just a VW example of price gougeing. We were told the AC compressor was over $700.00 as well..Anyway my advice is: Find a mechanic that has VW 'smarts'. I found this car to be the hardest car I have ever seen to work on..You always need to remove several parts (that usually never break) to get to the ones that always break..The VW garages here charge $90.00 an hour. I took her car to an independent VW mechanic that I found only 20 miles from the house. He purchased a used AC compressor (90 day warranty) for her car....If it is a 2.0 like my daughters is they are a bit tough to locate but can be found..I paid I believe $175.00 for it. The mechanic removed the old comp.,bled off the freon, installed the AC comp, re-charged the system and charged only $350.00 for the entire job.His labor was $45.00 an hour and it took him roughly 3 hours and he had the right tools..The rest of the price was for freon....So from $1500.00 at a VW dealership to $350.00 (parts and labor) at an independent VW repair shop..If you are near PA., I will give you the garage if interested..email: robiroberts06@Yahoo.com
Compressor locked up.
how to fined the ac compressor relay on a 2000 vw jetta
my ac dont work
my 1992 vw jetta ac blows cool and go warm for 5 to 10 mins than go cool again than back to warm.
No. The only compressor that will fit your 2000 Jetta is one with the same part number as your current one. They are completely engine-specific.
yes you can, just go buy an ac bypass pulley, pull your compressor, and put pulley in its place
If I change the AC compressor in a car, do I have to change the orifice?
To replace the AC compressor in a 1999 Grand Prix you must first remove the AC belt. Then disconnect the negative battery cable before removing the compressor bolts and connectors and removing compressor.
The compressor is located under, to the left of the engine. You will see that it is attached to the belt (its an a/c compressor!) and it is right in front of the radiator fans. The compressor will have some silver houses running to it, and a socket wire harness conected to it. Hope this helps heh
my ac compressor is bad and i want to change it myself how can i do this
No you don't have to change the A/C Compressor.
its located in between the power steering pump and alternator when in doubt follow the ac lines that run to and from it
