You may be able to get a direct replacement at the auto parts store, but actually separating the pieces of the exhaust is quite a chore, as they tend to bond together with corrosion/rust. Cutting and welding is often necessary. Taking it to a reputable shop may be a good idea.
It can be removed on any car. If you remove it though, it probably won't meet emission standards, but you will gain a few horsepower, which is always good
NOT THAT SIMPLE!!!! it depends on the year of cherokee. if its a 95 or earlier yes you can do just about anything to the exhaust system (tbi1 system) but if its a 96 or newer you will have to replace an oxygen sensor. if you dont put that back in you wont run right and get even shittier gas milage then before.
You can just cut the old one out and fit the new one in with muffler clamps, be sure to get a new O2 sensor because that old one will probably never come off. Check with your dealer though, the 96 and 97 Cherokees and Wranglers had an emisssions recall ( E-22 ) that will get it replaced for free if the work has not yet been performed on your Jeep.
Call them, and have the last 8 of your vin handy.
Unbolt front flange and either cut or remove clamp from rear section--same as changing a muffler
Just cut that sucker out with a cut of wheel on a grinder, but be prepard to put a new one back on, it is a federal law that it has a converter.
The starter is located under the motor on the drivers side...if you're looking at it from under the car (which is where you'll need to be) it will be to the right and back of the catalytic converter. There are two silver pipes that run right by it...
If your check engine light is blinking that means an engine cylinder misfire has been detected . You can drive it in for repair , just avoid any rapid aceleration or deceleration because you can damage the catalytic converter
I have a 1999 blazer. The heater core clogs up about once a year from the Dexcool. Try having it (heater core) flushed and use Prestone (Extended life) instead of Texaco.
on ebay search for NEW STARTER CHEVY 4.3L S10 BLAZER, C SERIES TRUCK 99 00 01 02 03 04 & ASTRO VAN this gives you an image.
No, not if it is not defective. If the ignition switch is defective then that is all you need to replace.
How much does it cost to replace the catalytic converter on a 1999 Toyota Tacoma
Replace it
It is possible to replace the catalytic converter with a straight-through section of exhaust pipe, but understand that doing so puts you in violation of pollution laws in most states and definitely Federal pollution laws.
A shop can cut the bad converter out and weld a new one in.
Replace
In exhaust pipe before catalytic converter unscrew to replace
best if you take it to a shop unless you have a welder.
there are 3 O2 sensors on the 4.3 Vortec V6 Blazer ( I have a 99 as well) 1 is on each exhaust downpipe forward of the catalytic converter, the 3rd is just aft of the converter.
The oxygen sensor on a 1999 Honda Civic is located on top of the catalytic converter. The catalytic converter is under the car.
Plugged fuel/air filter? Plugged catalytic converter? Engine timing? Check EGR Valve
