You may be able to get a direct replacement at the auto parts store, but actually separating the pieces of the exhaust is quite a chore, as they tend to bond together with corrosion/rust. Cutting and welding is often necessary. Taking it to a reputable shop may be a good idea.

∙ 14y agoIt can be removed on any car. If you remove it though, it probably won't meet emission standards, but you will gain a few horsepower, which is always good
NOT THAT SIMPLE!!!! it depends on the year of cherokee. if its a 95 or earlier yes you can do just about anything to the exhaust system (tbi1 system) but if its a 96 or newer you will have to replace an oxygen sensor. if you dont put that back in you wont run right and get even shittier gas milage then before.

∙ 10y agoYou can just cut the old one out and fit the new one in with muffler clamps, be sure to get a new O2 sensor because that old one will probably never come off. Check with your dealer though, the 96 and 97 Cherokees and Wranglers had an emisssions recall ( E-22 ) that will get it replaced for free if the work has not yet been performed on your Jeep.
Call them, and have the last 8 of your vin handy.

∙ 10y agoJust cut that sucker out with a cut of wheel on a grinder, but be prepard to put a new one back on, it is a federal law that it has a converter.
