There are two cables that run from the starter relay on the drivers side fender wall and both of those wires run through a loom, behind the battery, down to the bottom of the transmission housing and over to the starter mounting bolts. There are 3 bolts that secure the battery cables in place: The first one is on the drivers fender wall behind the battery. The second is on the bottom of the transmission housing near the fender, but the bolt is directly secured to the transmission housing I think. If it isn't the transmission then it is around there somewhere, because I can't remember that particular bolt location. The third bolt is the bracket attached to the starter mounting bolts. That should take care of unfastening the battery cables loom, at that point, you should be able to remove the battery cables from the car as long as they are not connected to the battery, starter relay and the starter solenoid. I forgot the second bolt, because it was tricky to maneuver a rachet into the area and loosen the bolt.
Follow your red or positive cable from the battery down. It is connected to the starter.
To change the positive battery cable on a 1988 Jeep Cherokee trace the end of the cable to the starter. Unplug the battery then remove the cable from the starter. Measure the old positive cable with the new and be sure to replace the unit at the right size.
1. Remove negative battery cable 2. remove positive battery cable 3. remove battery 4. install new battery 5.attach positive cable 6.attach negative cable
Change the positive post? You can change the battery with a new one but you cannot just change the post. If you mean reverse the positions of the positive and negative posts then buy a longer battery cable.
Follow the positive battery cable; first it goes to the starter solenoid then to the starter. I hope this helps you. Mark
Always disconnect the negative battery cable first even if you are changing the positive cable and reconnect the negative cable last. This is to prevent accidental shorts to ground.
Remove brackets that hold existing battery in place. Unscrew negative cable, then positive cable. Pull old battery out. Place new battery in. Fasten negative battery cable, then positive one. Place bracket back on and tighten nuts.
take the negative batter cable off, then the positive cable off, undo batter hold down clamp, take battery out. put new battery in, install batter hold down, install positive cable, then install negative cable. (in that order)
the red cable if there is no red cable usuallly the thicker cable is positive if that does not work look under your vehicle for the starter and fallow the thick wire back to your battery and that is you positive cable.
On the vast majrity of 1992 OBD1 vehicles, removing the positive battery cable for 15 minutes will clear all codes.
Is the positive battery cable for a 1989 cheyenne a fused cable? Can I buy this cable at a Auto Parts Store?
disconnect negative side first.... then disconnnect all connections to the pos cable labelling as you go... replace with new cable... reconnect to battery.
