I think the 95 - 01 are all the same, and 4WD/2WD are the same design also. You don't change the bushings, you need to change the entire control arm. It comes as one assembly from the dealer. It's not difficult, one nut and bolt per bushing (2 total) and one nut and bolt that hold the upper ball joint in the spindle. You will need to get an aligment afterwards. Oh, and bring the VIN number when you get to the dealer, there is a high risk you will get the wrong part (don't ask how I know that). Also, you should know if you have a one piece or 2 piece control arm on the right hand side, helps with getting the right part first time. Left hand side is one piece only. Good luck.
I have 2000 expedition and thought i could change then. After taking my wheel off i notice they could not be change. You need to replace the upper control arm.
What is bussin? Bushings? If so, which bushings? Upper Control Arm (A-arm) Bushings? Sway bar bushings -- front or rear? Ya lost me bud, try to be a little more specific and maybe use a spell checker.
I got a quote for $1300 to replace the bushings on both sides on my 1993 S15. Its very involved to get the control arms off and then the bushings have to be removed and installed with a machine press. It turned out to be cheaper to replace the control arms myself for $250 in parts.
Compress the springs and lock them down. You best check on all the front end compomets while you are doing this job.
its the upper control arm bolts also called cam's. most of the time you have to replace the cam bolts and the bushings. that's the best idea for you to idea. rangers are pretty well known for junking those upper control arm bushings.
The upper ball joints come with a new control arm , as far as I know you can't just change the balljoint ( if that's what you are asking ? )
Rear upper & lower control arm bushings need to be replaced.
How to change upper and lower ball joints on a 1997 ford explorer all wheel drive?
How much does it cost to replace the upper and lower control arm bushings on a 1998 Chevrolet S-10? Upper control arm bushings are quoted at about 1.9 hours fro each side. However, if both are done then 3.5 hours total. Lower control arm bushings are 1.9 hours for one side and 3.4 hours for both sides. Just apply your shop's labor rate to the above hours. Note: Not all mechanics use the same book to estimate time for reapirs. This data is provided by Alldata. Mitchell Brothers could be different, as could the other services. Note 2: Upper control arm bushings are far easier to replace than lower control arm bushings because they are far more readily accessibly.
Use a ball joint press. You can get one from Harbor Freight. You'll most likely need the accessory kit as well. You can use the press in different configuration to press the old bushings out, and the new bushings in. Even the front upper bushings in the axle can be pressed out, although it may be a little tricky setting up the ball joint press to do the job.
The bushings are pressed in, as well as the upper ball joint. You can buy the entire control arm for under 60 bucks at Rockauto, or $70 at autozone. This ends up being cheaper than buying the parts separate, and saves you having to press them in & out. The bushings are pressed in, as well as the upper ball joint. Bushings need to be pressed in (and old ones may possibly need to be pressed out) with a special tool, then alignment is required to prevent premature tire wear.
