Nissan Almeras have common problem with them which is the timing chain. It's a Renault part and gets stretched after so many miles which causes the engine to stall and not start. My Nissan stalled when I was overtaking another car and it nearly killed me. There's a recall for this defect but my vin was not included. If anyone needs contact number for customer service here it is

Nissan customer services

01923 899999

THE MORE PEOPLE THAT PHONE CUSTOMER SERVICES TO COMPLAIN ABOUT TIMING CHAIN THE MORE CHANCE THEY'LL DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE AS FAR AS CUSTOMER SERVICES ARE AWARE THERES NO PROBLEM WITH TIMING CHAIN SO THEY WONT ISSUE A RECALL

How to change timing belt on 1996 Nissan Altima?

Answer to timing belt for 1996 AltimaThey don't have timing belts. At least mine doesn't. Double check your manual or call a Nissan dealer & ask to be sure. There is not a timing belt on this model or any year before or after this model. You have a 2.4L engine with a timing chain and there is no reason to replace the timing chain unless it is making noise. The chain is at least rated at a 7-10 hour job and should not be considered for repair due to the damage that can arise if not careful.
