Oh man! 'You' CANNOT change the tranny fluid unless you have a special mechanic's tool and it most be put up on a lift to do so! The cadillac catera has what is called a SEALED TRANSMISSION ofcourse so you have to take it to a shop. I just changed my transmission in my 1997 Catera. You have to raise the vehicle level. Go under and while the engine is running and up to operating temperature just like any automatic transmission. There is a filler bolt on the passenger side of the transmission. That bolt comes out and you use a pump to pump out the fluid to transmission. You know it is full when it starts to come out the hole. Fluid level suppose to be to the bottom of the thread of the bolt hole. This is very similar to manual trans-axles not hard to do once your car is up off the ground. I have changed 5 Catera Transmissions in the last 2 years. In different cars.
