Yes there is a special tool to reach in and discconect the hoses, parts store should have one,got mine from NAPA (ultra pro)
These connectors requires a special tool to disconnect. There is a spring up inside the round part of the 'female' end of the fitting - the tool slips over the pipe and the slides up inside to expand the spring, releasing the connection. Not very expensive and widely available.
on my 98 heater hoses are at the firewall to the right as you go under the hood. voyager have a tendency to clog up heater cores
No, it is not required. You can remove it and splice the heater hoses together.
Begin by removing the water supply hoses from your 1989 Chevy heater core. Remove the heater core retaining bolts. The heater core can be removed.
Feel the heater hoses see if one is hot and the other cold. May be airbound and have to be bled. Could be defective Thermostat that is not closing to allow engine temp to get hot enough disconnect heater hoses and run a garden hose through to make sure heater core is not plugged Check heater control cable to make is operating properly Pressure test cooling system to check for leaks
The water from your 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier cooling system. Remove the heater core water supply hoses. Remove the heater core retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new heater core.
No................... Its located in the center of the vehicle but you will need to remove the side panels if equipped and then remove the lower heater core cover and the heater hoses.............
Disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the cooling system.Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core inlet and outlet connections in the engine compartment.Allowing residual coolant from the heater core to drain. Cap the openings.Working inside the vehicle, remove the lower instrument panel sound insulator.Remove the heater floor outlet duct screws or clips and remove the duct.Remove the heater core cover by removing the attaching screws and clips.Remove the heater core cover.Remove the heater core retainers and remove the heater core.
The dash must be completely removed in order to gain access to the heater box. Then the heater hoses are disconnected and the heater box is removed and opened up. That gains access to the heater core for relacement.
First you have to remove the Upper and Lower Hoses going into the firewall, those hoses goes to the heater core... you must remove the bottom half of the dash in order to access the heater core... it should be held in with about 4 bolts (im not really sure how many bolts holds it in).
On a 1989 Chevy Celebrity the heater hose leaves the water pump via a hose barb then runs along the top of the passenger side frame rail and then into the heater core. The heater core is in the firewall below the blower fan on the passenger side of the car. The return hose leaves the heater core and runs along the firewall then to the water outlet below the thermostat.
