First of all be sure that you actually do have a leak. You said it was slow. It could be evaporating. To check evaporation losses mark the level of the pool by placing a small piece of Duct Tape at water level inside the skimmer. This tape will be removed after this test. Remove a bucket of water and set it near the pool but where animals cannot drink from it. Mark the level of the water inside the bucket. Over a period of days monitor the water level in the bucket as compared to the pool. If the level goes down the same in both, then your loss is due to evaporation. This kind of loss can be reduced by covering the pool when not in use. If the level in the pool lowers more than the bucket then you have a leak. Floor leaks will sometimes cause a soft, mushy area. Also look for damp areas around the perimeter of the pool. This may help you to narrow the search for the leak. Don't forget to remove the tape from inside the skimmer.

∙ 15y agoMy best guess would be swim around and try and look for air bubbles - if the leak is small, the bubbles will be very small too, so swim slowly without making too much disturbance, and look very closely. Perhaps use goggles?

When draining a pool take care that there isn't enough ground water around the outside of the pool to lift it out of position, even a concrete pool will float on ground water. and once they are lifted out of the ground you are in big trouble.

The only way I can imagine doing this would be to dig an agg drain around the pool thereby draining the ground water as it gets to the pool. The problem with this is that you would have to have a point low enough to drain it to or have a sump wit a pump in it which sounds rather expensive depending on how much ground water there is.

This can be a passive system with a small pipe going under your liner and allowing the ground water to drain off (but this only works if you can keep all parts of that pipe below the level of the water in the pool-which depends completely on the pitch of the ground in your yard), or an active pumping system which pumps the ground water out to a drain.

no, you need to drain the pool to get enough liner to pull over the top. You can try to glue a new piece to where it has pulled away but the weight of the water will most likely pull it apart and if not you will have a sag there sooner or later. When installing a new liner NEVER! trim the excess away without leaving 12 to 18 inches extra, water is heavy and the ground under the pool is sure to settle some. Some areas will stretch a lot and you will need to let it out and others will sag and you will need to take it up so plan for it. Most liners will have wrinkles in the bottom and that is where you will need to get your extra from, if not then a new liner may be necessary.
