i would try a can of ether pray all vacuum lines one a time. when it ides up then know where the leak is.
Start with a good tuneup and injector cleaning. A compression test would tell you the condition of th valves and rings.

I would use the internet to locate a repair manual. Chilton is a large manufacture of repair manuals. Check websites of Ford Aftermarket parts to restore the torino. They will usually have the vacuum hose decal that was originally under hood. Would also type in Gran Torino car clubs on google. They will know all the suppliers of parts and manuals.
