There are many ways to do this and here is mine which I have found to be accurate and simple. Remove all spark plugs and the coil wire. If you have a remote starter switch use it to turn the engine over in very small stages. If you have no remote use an assistant. Now find the #1 spark plug and put your finger over the hole and wait for the compression stroke. As soon as you feel the push of air from the piston coming back up on the compression stroke stop and insert a straw into the spark plug hole. Turn the engine over by hand and watch as the piston is coming up it will push the straw out of the hole. When it finally stops pushing the straw up mark that position on the crankshaft pulley. Now continue turning the engine over by hand until you see the straw start down. Mark that position on the crankshaft pulley. Now move the engine backward to halfway between the 2 marks and you are at TDC. You can now look in the distributor and it will be pointing at the #1 plug firing position. Now if you are building a racing engine you need a dial indicator to do this so it will be very accurate. But for a common engine build this will work fine.
TDC
buy a book from auto zone
if you need to find tdc than put a screwdriver in the #1 cylinder hole and turn over by hand until the screwdriver is about to go down or up,you will find the spot in the crankshaft were you can turn it slightly and the screwdriver will go up a bit or down.
Yes it is, It has no choice but to be at TDC.
were is the tdc problem
TDC Northern Stars was created in 2010.
what are the symptoms of bad tdc o2 sensor
where is the tdc sensor on a 2003 scenic 1.6
where is the tdc in my 98 civic ex sedan
Check the glove box. That's where I find everything. there is not a tdc you have to have a scan tool to put it in time that is what i had to do on my 97 gmc. the crab cap elmanites that... it is a pain in the butt if you ever have to change the dist.
Use a welding rod or similar screw out spark plug put welding rod inside were the plug was and turn over the engine by hand until the rod reaches the top you are now at tdc
The top dead center (TDC) on a John Deere 6420 can be found using a timing tool or by aligning the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and camshaft. Make sure the engine is at operating temperature and turned off before attempting to locate TDC. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for your specific model to ensure accuracy.
