This will depend on the vehicle: the year, make and model. They are placed in different areas, usually around the bell housing of gearbox or at the front on the pulleys. look around the length or the crank as the name suggests. Look around the transmission bell housing, just above the flywheel.
Does your vehicle have the LT1? if so there is no crank sensor.. there is an optic sensor in the distributor that controls all..
