check to make sure your emergency brake cable is not in too far .this has happened on a lot of the Datsun model pickups and pull back slightly on the lever while checking the accelerator pedal by pushing down and letting up on it.i hope this solves the problem for you.

If it does not move freely or sticks, a good CLEANING is necessary. This valve should be kept CLEAN at all times anyway.
