I don't know about a Grand Cherokee, but in a 2005 Jeep Wrangler you turn your ignition 3 times with out turning the motor over. Turn your key to start, then off, then start, then off, then start and leave in start position, a code will be displayed in the odometer area. Maybe its the same for a Grand Cherokee.
If that doesn't work a scan tool is required.
With an OBD2 scan tool. or flip switch till odometer comes on repeat two times watch for code done means no codes
Simple: Plug a code reader into the diagnostic port (under steering wheel). A good auto parts store like O'Reilly or AutoZone can usually do this for free.
That requires a scan tool.
With a scan tool.
You do not reset it, it is a fault code. It is not a routine maintenance indicator. Fix the problem and the light will go out.
I'm wondering if you are looking for a list of the Diagnostic Trouble Codes and what they mean or if you are wanting to know how to get any codes that may be stored on board due to a fault that's occurred. On model years 96 and later the only way to obtain the codes is by using a scanner that plugs into an outlet typically located under the dash on the drivers side near the side wall. The scanner will display any active codes. It would probably be less expensive to just take the vehicle in to a repair shop that has a scanner than to buy one. If you want a list of all codes that can be shown you can obtain these codes and an explanation of each by purchasing one of the popular repair manuals from publishers such as Hayes or Chilton. Usually these manuals are available at your local library in their reference section and contain a wealth of other information. Hope this helps and Good luck to you !!
If you have p0201,p0202,p0203,etc, try replacing the throttle position sensor. The tps can go bad and send out electrical noise which confuses the computer and it sets injector codes.
Well, I can't solve the problem but my '98 Grand Ltd has also begun blowing hot air only. It does it on any heater setting, hot or cold, and the a/c running makes no difference--still hot only.It is as if the system has locked up somehow. In an old manually operated heater it would be a fault with the hot water valve sticking and not closing off. From reading on this site it seems that it may be related to the air blend door sticking.Allowing hot air only---and costing around $850 to repair. There must be a better way !
Found the problem. OBDII gave me a fault code. P1694. It was the Crankshaft Position Sensor. The sensor was shorting out which caused the gauges to not function.
For performance, road test and examine fault codes if any.
it depends on the vehicle, some fault codes are manufacturer specific
It needs to be connected to diagnostic equipment for the fault codes to be read and then cleared.
You will need a code retrieval tool available at the auto parts store, plug into the OBDII port by the base of the steering wheel and it will tell you what the fault codes are.
It's actually rare for the actuator motor to fail. The problem is usually a broken blend door and the computer shutting down the system because it detected a fault. You can find diagnostic information at heatertreater.net
They are viewed with a scan tool.
to let you know it's on. or to let you know there's a fault! Get a garage to hook up engine management diagnostic equipment to download the fault codes.
You will need to go to a dealer or a repair facility that has the Volvo Vida diagnostic computer with the Dice interface. A average diagnostic tool cannot access the SRS codes.
you will need to plug in an obd diagnostic scanner to read the fault codes then clear them which will turn off the light
Any number of possible faults will cause the MIL to illuminate the only way to find the fault is to have the fault codes read by diagnostic equipment. The fault needs to be rectified then the codes can be re-set which will then extinguish the light MIL malfunction indication light
Trouble code P1494 means: Leak detection pump pressure switch or mechanical fault
P0700 indicates a fault in the Transmission control system. -My list does not show any 17- - codes for this car
