How do you install a distributor in a Ford 300 6 cylinder?
1. You will need to turn the engine over to bring number 1 cylinder to top dead center on the compression stroke. Easy way to do this is to remove number one spark plug and have an assistant "bump" the starter while holding your finger in the spark plug hole. As soon as you feel air push your finger out of the hole, have your assistant go away. Continue turning the engine by hand in the same direction it was turning until the timing mark is at "0". 2. Turn the rotor in the distributer to number one spark plug terminal on the distributer cap and drop it into its hole. You may have to twist it back and forth slightly to get it to drop in and engage the oil pump drive, but that's all there is to it. 3. Time the engine after starting it up with a timing light.
On a 1993 Ford E-150 GASOLINE engine : Follow the spark plug wires to the distributor cap on top of the distributor On the 4.9 liter / 300 cubic inch inline six cylinder engine ( the distributor is on the DRIVERS SIDE of the engine ) On the V8 engines it is ( near the front of the engine on the top of the engine )
The spark plug firing order is ( 1 - 5 - 3 - 6 - 2 - 4 ) The distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE The marked # 1 position on the distributor cap faces AWAY from the engine The engine cylinder locations are numbered 1 to 6 , from front to rear ( on your 300 cubic inch / 4.9 liter Ford straight 6 cylinder engine )
