1. You will need to turn the engine over to bring number 1 cylinder to top dead center on the compression stroke. Easy way to do this is to remove number one spark plug and have an assistant "bump" the starter while holding your finger in the spark plug hole. As soon as you feel air push your finger out of the hole, have your assistant go away. Continue turning the engine by hand in the same direction it was turning until the timing mark is at "0". 2. Turn the rotor in the distributer to number one spark plug terminal on the distributer cap and drop it into its hole. You may have to twist it back and forth slightly to get it to drop in and engage the oil pump drive, but that's all there is to it. 3. Time the engine after starting it up with a timing light.
