When you own a dog you should keep the rabies shots up. I do believe that in the U.S. this shot is given every year whereas in Canada one shot lasts three years. If your dog isn't left to roam and you've had the dog at home with you for sometime then it's highly unlikely you have rabies. However, if worried, please take your dog to the vets so a test can be done for rabies. You can only get rabies if a dog with rabies bites you. Signs of rabies in a dog are: * Acting strange, with tail between legs (if long tailed.) * Growling * Hyper * Afraid of everything including people * Doesn't like loud noises and will become frantic and may bite the first person they see. * Foaming at the mouth * Attacking other animals or humans

To tell if a cat has rabies, first think about these questions. 1: Does the cat foam at the mouth? 2: Is the cat constantly attacking or killing animals for no reason? 3: If the cat is attacking animals for no reason, do the ones who aren't killed act odd or different then they did before? If you said yes to any of these questions then the cat that you think has rabies might just so have them.

You should call Animal Control or your local animal shelter to come and catch the cat. Hope I helped! :)

If a dog has confirmed rabies, there is nothing that can be done for them to treat the rabies. There is no cure. Humane euthanasia is the only action.

The dog can be taken to a vet to be tested. Do not wait on results, though, if you are bitten.

The only way to determine if an animal carries rabies is by killing it and having the brain examined by a trained technician.

When can a rabies cat infect you. i heard it was only a couple of days. would it be obvious if the cat had it. and also can it be detected with an eye test?

Rabies is transmitted through the salvia. If a cat has rabies, he can infect you with it. If a person is bitten or scratched by a cat with rabies, they have the possibility of getting rabies. An animal with rabies can show several symptoms. It can be disoriented, dumb looking, vicious, tired, foaming at the mouth, and/or unable to swallow. The only way to check for rabies is to send the head of the animal off for brain biopsy. For humans there is no test. If you are bitten or scratched by a rabies animal, go get rabies shots immediately.

Is your cat going to be okay he has not had his rabies shot and you think he has rabies?

no it's dead

Do it gets a risk of rabies of a cat scratch?

It is unlikely. Rabies is caught by the transfer of bodily fluids, and if an infected cat bites you, you may get rabies from his saliva. In order to catch rabies from a cat scratch, the cat must have bodily fluids on his claws, which is unlikely unless his feet are bleeding for some reason. If a cat gets into a fight with a rabid cat, and then scratches you when you try to separate them, it is possible that the rabid cat's blood can get into the scratch.

What are the harmful effects of a cat?

rabies

Can a cat get and infect to people rabies if they have a rabies shotAsk us anything?

If a cat has a rabies shot after it has already become infected with rabies, the shot will be ineffective and the cat can infect people despite having been vaccinated. If the cat receives its rabies shot while it is healthy, and if the shot is effective (which it is nearly all the time), then the cat cannot catch rabies and cannot infect a human. However, a very small number of rabies shots (about one in 100,000) is not effective. Note that the rabies vaccine can lose effectiveness if it is mishandled. In almost all cases, if the original shot is ineffective, the booster shot corrects it.

Can a cat get rabies when they have had a rabies shot?

Rabies vaccinations in cats need to be renewed every 1 to 3 years. Your cat shouldn't contract rabies if they've been recently vaccinated. If you think your cat has been exposed to rabies, or can't remember when your cat was last vaccinated, call your vet ASAP. There is no cure or treatment for rabies in cats once symptoms occur, it's a fatal disease. It's also a disease that humans can contract. Unfortunately, there are no tests that definitively show if an animal has rabies except for a test that is performed on samples of the brain after the animal has died. This is why it's extremely important to keep up with your cat's rabies vaccinations.

Can Cats Transmit Rabies?

Yes, by biting or scratching. (Rabies does not appear to spread through fleas.)

Can you confuse a cat about to give birth with rabies?

When a cat is about to give birth it has a very noticeable big belly, and you would have to be very unobservant to miss it, and to attribute the cat's ill temper to rabies.
