run everyday and replace sugary bevrages with low cal jucies or water..do a small workout of pushups before bed and repeat for about 2 months....lower food intake and manage calories and fat

When you start going to the gym you lose fat but gain muscle and as muscle is heavier that fat you may feel larger, but reach for the measuring tape, you may not lose weight but you will lose inches.
You need to healthy food stay active if you dont go jogging at the gym then run ate home or around the block.
Running and biking are great exercises.
The only way you can gain weight by not going to the gym is to pig out and over eat. If you maintain a healthy life style and eat properly you shouldn't get fat, but you will loose muscle size, and strength
Go on a diet, go to the gym, jog or walk long distances often. If you plan on going to the gym then go on a carbohydrate diet for the energy. GOOD LUCK! :)

How you eat, IE. how many calories and the proportion of carbs, proteins and fats is more important when you're trying to lose FAT than exercise. (I don't like to use the term 'weight' because its ambiguous. You can lose water weight just by reducing your carb intake and you don't want to lose muscle weight.) But increasing your activity level (the gym) certainly fires up your metabolism burning more calories and facilitates FAT loss.
