If you shine a flashlight into the front grille, you might be able locate a small (pea-sized) c-shaped hook in the latch. If you can see it, place a screwdriver in there and pull firmly to the right. This is a manual release mechanism that will trip the hood open, in lieu of the cable.

Open the hood as far as you can then use a flat-blade screwdriver to pust the latch. Just remember to always carry the tool and a flashlight to locate the latch.

my 2001 does the same thing. its the spring in the latch release. I have to have my wife sit in the car and keep popping the hood release while i push in and up and down on the hood right where the latch release is over and over and eventually it gives. Once you get the hang of it you can do it by yourself.

There is a screwdriver slot behind the grill that will operate the hood latch. Look for it on the driver's side.

You may pull the wire with a pair of plyers near the hood latch. To access it you need to reach behind the grille of the car and pull the exposed wire near the latch with the plyers

i would probably use a screwdriver to nudge where the latch used to be to pop it open

Take the grill out and remove the bolts holding the latch on.

IF the Cable is broken on the hood latch, I used a long, flat head screwdriver. Locate the eyelet under the hood, and push it with the screwdriver. It's difficult, but it works. Replace the hood latch before you close the hood. Good zluck.

The only way i can think of would be to remove your bumper so you can get to the latch, and either unbolt the latch from the core support or unbolt it from the hood...

some of them were on recall for the striker on the hood My hood latch was sticking.. I sprayed wd-40 and put some white petroleum grease all over the latch assembly.. No more sticking..

User Avatar

the hood latch is not releasing this could be due to a stuck/broken hood latch or something wrong with the release mechanism (broken/stuck cable, handle came off of cable, etc...) use screwdriver(s) through your grille to pull the lever that would be pulled from the cable. best thing to do is get a new hood latch from local parts store and look at it to figure out how it works so you know just what to press/pull/activate on the car -R. The latch is broken or out of adjustment.

Use a flashlight. If you look from the passenger side of center from the grill, you can see a spring that is attached to a brass looking mechanism that is inside the latch. Push on the brass colored mechanism with a flathead screwdriver toward the driver-side. POP!
