There are probably other ways to remember which state is which in the original thriteen colonies. The names of those colonies are still states. The best way to get familiar with them is to spend years driving around them.

Actually we do remember them. History books report on their landings and colonies plus how they raided the coastlines of the UK. Today towns and streets still have the names given them by Vikings. They are not forgotten.
