The same way you remove the one on the passenger's side. Now that wasn't nice. First look at the top of the knuckle at the mounting post. You should see a small tab sticking out the bottom of the wiper arm. Lift up on the arm while pulling out on the tab. Once the tab comes out far enough to hold the wiper arm up without your help, the whole assembly can be wiggled off the post. Look carefully at the inside of the wiper arm knuckle and you will see that there is a locator spline which needs to line up with its corresponding slot in the post when it is reassembled. And, no, older was not better in this case. They were much more difficult to remove. It required a special tool and all the proper words! ; )
First, remove the wiper arm and the shaft nut. Open the hatch and remove the interior panel. remove the three screws that secure the mounting plate for the motor and remove the whole assembly. Go to Nissan dealer for a replacement, it's cheaper and Nissan made it anyhow.
A wiper arm on a 2001 Honda Civic is screwed on. To remove it unscrew the mounting hardware and take off the wiper arm.
Remove plastic cap. Remove nut. Pry up wiper arm.....
Pull the clips back and lift them off.
The front wiper arms on a 1997 Mercury Villager clip off once they are bent backwards. To install the new wipers simply slide them into the clip.

remove the cowl & wiper arms (mark location of arms on the windshield). disconnect the battery, Disconnect wire connector at wiper motor & remove the 4 mounting bolts then remove the linkage from motor.

Find the largest hammer you can, strike the wiper repeatedly, remove, duct tape new wiper on.
The wiper motor is located in front of the windshield under the cowl grille. 1. Remove both wiper arms.2. Remove six screws from the cowl grille at the base of the windshield.3. Open the hood.4. Remove the four plastic screwsand anchors from the forward edge of the cowl.5. Disconnect the washer hose and lift the cowl grille from the car.6. Locate the wiper motor on the driver side7. Remove the three bolts that hold the motor and the shaft nut that holds the wiper arm.8. Remove motor.
You have to remove the wiper cowl assembly, and the alternator mounting brackets.
There is a small clip on underside of mounting block on the end pointing back towards the wiper arm, which when depressed allows you to slide the wiper blade BACK toward the beginning of the wiper arm and thus remove it. Mounting mechanism is a 1/2 inch J-hook type.
