To remove the fan clutch on a Chevy Tahoe, the upper fan shroud must first be removed. Once removed, a tool is needed to hold the clutch in place to allow for the fan to be removed. The nuts must be unscrewed on the fan in a counterclockwise rotation. Remove the nuts on all side and the fan clutch will remove.
I used two large wrenches, but my water pump assembly was out of the vehicle at the time
Remove the fan belt, by loosening the tensioner pulley. Remove the fan clutch with the retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new fan clutch.
There is a difference, it will not work.
Replace the fan clutch that is on the front of the engine.

counter clock, if you are buying a new water pump check the tread in it
you have to remove the cooling fan to change the fan clutch. you need to loosen the fan shroud, be careful to remember the serpenting belp routing, maybe draw a diagram to remind you. 4 bolts holding the fan to the water pump, 4 bolts holding the clutch to the fan. this is how i did mine on a 5.0l Chevy truck
Unless the fan clutch is bad just remove it with the water pump. Otherwise it is a 36mm fan clutch wrench that most auto parts stores have for rent.
You have a bad fan clutch..............
Remove the fan itself then remove the clutch from the fan
Lefty loosey, righty tighty.
There are two types. One you just take the 4 nuts off of the water pump studs then the 4 bolts that hold the fan to the clutch and the second type that have a big nut holding the clutch to the fan which requires a special tool rentable from some parts stores If itt the big nut type, a big crescent or pipe wrench will do the job;)
