I have the same problem with my Lexus ES300 (bubble-eye). I just used some "straight" ammonia on a rag and wiped it. It still has a film, but not as thick.

OR.

# Step 1 Squirt a half dollar sized dollop of scrubbing cleaner, such as Liquid Comet, onto one of the towels. Scrub the outside of the headlight housing thoroughly. # Step 2 Rinse the scrubbing cleaner off with the soapy water. Polish until it is completely dry. # Step 3 Soak one corner of the second towel in plastic polish, such as PlasticX. Polish the headlight with a circular motion until the polish is completely rubbed into the headlight. This will fill in any scratches that have caused dullness and brighten the headlights up more than just dirt removal will. # Step 4 If the headlights still appear dim or discolored, remove the headlight housing. Clean the inside of the headlight glass the same way as you did the outside.

What are disposible cameras made of?

Paper and plastic. Most "disposable" cameras don't get thrown away; they remove the cardboard outer box, remove the film and develop it, then test the plastic camera inside. If it works, they put new film in it, put it in a new box and sell it again.

How do you troubleshoot a 1995 Dodge Neon that keeps blowing the front headlight?

I have had this problem on both my wife's 95 Neon, and my 2001 Ram truck. In both cases, it was literally blowing the halogen bulb to pieces. It turned out that both units were allowing moisture to enter into the plastic headlight assembly. When this moisture hit the hot bulb, it would blow up. On the neon, i just took the assembly out, and applied a thin film of RTV Black silicone around the seam where the clear plastic meets the main headlight body. The truck required a replacement headlight. Both problems solved.

How do you replace the headlights on a 1997 Ford Escort LX?

The headlight assembly on newer cars is two pieces. It consists of a bezel and light bulb. The bezel is the part of the headlight that you see from outside the car. Unless this part is broken, it can't burn out because it only holds the bulb; you will be replacing the bulb only. This is done from inside the hood of the car at the back of the headlight assembly. Open the hood and stand beside the fender near the front tire. Look at the headlight. You should see a retainer ring that unscrews to allow the bulb to be removed from the back of the assembly. Disconnect the wires by unplugging them. When you take the new bulb out of the box try to avoid touching the glass of the bulb because the oil from your hand will cause the new bulb to burn out faster. Insert the bulb into the back of the headlight assembly there should be a notch to insure that the light bulb is positioned correctly so be sure the bulb is seated in that notch. Now, reinstall the retainer ring. Plug the wires back into the headlight. Congratulations, you just changed your headlight but remember to test the new bulb to be sure it works before driving the car. To replace the bezel you need to remove the front bumper: 1st remove the wheel well liners on both sides, then 2 bolts on each side inside front wheel well and on top 2 bolts and 1 plastic screw. Then the headlights have 2 studs on bottom and 2 bolts on top. Be prepared to super penetrating oil everything and remove bolts and nuts slow with left and right action or you'll be drilling and tapping broken studs/bolts. Also plastic gets fragile so if you're saving headlight assemblies be careful with tabs. The headlight covers on a 97 Ford Escort LX get dirty over time very easily. There is not a tight enough seal and condinsation collects. When the moisture dries a film is created on the inside cover. Is there a way other than replacing the whole headlight unit to get rid of the film. If headlight replacement is the most time and cost efficient then how do you replace the headlight unit itself?

How do you remove sticky protective film from polycarbonate panels?

I machined some polycarbonate (Lexan) sheets that dated from 2005 and the white plastic protective film had become very brittle and virtually impossible to remove. Not wanting to do the work again, I tried a few ways to remove the film. A plastic scraper seemed the only way until I heated the film with a domestic hair-drier set to hot. The protective film was softened enough to become very pliable and it came away from the polycarbonate sheet with only a gentle continuous pull, taking care not to disrupt the film as is was released from the sheet. Any marks left by the plastic scraper where the film had to be 'started' were removed with acetone (nail polish remover); polycarbonate is impervious to acetone. Check your sheet is polycarbonate before using any solvent (check some waste or inconspicuous part of the sheet beforehand). Hope this works - it did for me.

How do you remove the plastic film from a new metal garage door?

Heptane is very helpful in removing the plastic film from a new metal garage door. If the adhesive resists organic solvents like toluene, MEK, xylene, etc., as well as citrus-based products, the adhesive may be acrylic-based and it might be attacked with household ammonia.
