No it is not necessary to remove the axle nut in order to remove the front caliper. Once you remove the caliper the rotor should come off.
front or rear rotor? jack up wheel that needs rotor removed. remove wheel remove brake pads and caliper for back axle, remove axle nut. u will need special socket to remove this nut slide rotor off axle, making sure u dont drop bearings on the ground to remove front rotor on4x4, it is pretty much the same as rear , except you will have to remove locking hub from axle before you can remove axle nut.
Remove the Wheel and then remove the caliper after that you will need a 36mm axel nut socket ..they run about $20 bucks... remove the axel nut... the big nut in the center of the rotor. then you will need to carefully remove the black rubber ring where the rotor attaches in the center after that you should be able to pull off the rotor.. you may need some wd40 and a prybar or a hammer they can be rusted on.
QX4 - Removing the Front RotorYou need to remove the hub first. You remove the black cap. Once the cap is off you will see a snap ring on the axle splines. Remove that with snap ring pliers, then remove the six nuts around it. Then pull the plate off. This will expose the bearing nut lock ring which is held in by 2 tiny Phillips screws [you may need to wipe some of the grease away to see them]. Remove the lock ring then the bearing nut, it has 2 holes in it for a t-bar bearing nut tool. Once that nut is off you then pull the whole rotor and hub assembly off. At this point you remove the 5-14mm bolts holding the rotor to the hub and slide the hub out of the rotor [depending on rust build up you may need to tap on it to break it free from the hub].
Actually the nut does not hold the rotor on. Your brake caliper does that. The nut holds the front hub on. correct and the torque setting for the front hub nut is ..284 ft pounds
Yes
no no no you do not need to remove your castle nut if the rotor will not come off you need to beat it tell it dose
I dont think you remove the nut in the center of the hub, your rotor is more than likely just rusted on to the hub.
Remove spindle cap, cotter pin, spindle nut, outer bearing. Now you can pull off the rotor which has another bearing on the back and a seal.
The front hub takes a 35mm deep socket. (It is not necessary to remove the hub to change the rotor.)
to remove the front rotors u must first remove the caliper and caliper frame then remove the nut in the center of rotor rotor should fall off then hope this helps fordtech
You didn't specify brake rotor or ignition rotor. If it's the brake rotor, remove the front wheel, remove the brake caliper, remove the bearing dust cap, remove the cotter pin, and then remove the castle nut, this will free up the rotor to be removed from the spindle. While it's off you may as well replace the wheel bearings. If its the ignotion rotor you simply remove the distributor cap, and then two screws hold the rotor on.
