On Pontiac grand am its very simple... on the front of the shifter closest to to radio there is a small metal piece down where the plastic meets the metal rod. it run side to side. use a small flat screwdriver and pry it out. its like a big staple. dont lose it or you wont be able to keep the new one on. Too Easy! for the guys who told you to unscrew it...., go back to the trailer park.
