If the transmission housing is not cracked there is a good chance that the trans is OK. Sometimes the axle absorbs all the shock. If the housing is cracked then you may have trans problems. Mark
I belive there is a snap ring one the end of the axle that keeps it in. On the end that goes into the transmission, about a quarter of an inch from the end there should be a groove in the axle. If there is, there should be a ring in it.

Jack up the car--as high as you can cet it---remove the wheel of the side you're working on---remove the large nut from the axle--- disconnect the ball joint pull the knuckle off of the axle---remove the bolt that goes through the yoke of the lower control arm(17 mm nut about a 5 inch bolt ) pull the control arm down and swing the axle clear of the yoke---now use a pry bar (do not pull on the axle) to pry the axle out of the transmission---some oil may leak but not much

If you mean without removing CV Axle or drive axle or Axle shaft or CV shaft (same thing) then the answer is still no. You cannot remove the transaxle without removing the drive axle/CV shaft.
