If you are speaking of the "keyed" switch and not the electric column switch, it is not so bad, but I am a locksmith and my point of view may be a bit skewed. Question 1: Is the steering column round, if not ignore the following and call me @ 610.802.0802. If so you have it easy. You will need two "specific" tools available at your local autoparts store. A lockring compressor and a wheel puller. WITHOUT REMOVING THE COLUMN, follow the first few steps at this site I have listed (you will not have to unscrew the metal plate. It will be plastic and will pop right off.) When you get to the step where it says remove the key buzzer contacts, after removing this contact, this is where these instructions end for you. DO NOT FOLLOW ANY FURTHER. Behind this buzzer tab you will see a small set-screw. 7mm., 3/16, or Torx 15 or 20. Remove this screw and the cylinder will slide right out! Reverse the steps and you are done! Post: In the final picture, the one with the key buzzer, it shows three bolts that come out.....NOT FOR IGNITION REMOVAL, so do not do so! Post Post: Have fun removing the "spring clip"! HINT: two tiny screwdrivers. Begin by removing the retaining ring at the top of your 1990 Pontiac Bonneville ignition switch. The ignition switch will slide out. Remove the wiring harness from the end of the ignition switch. Reverse the process to install your new ignition switch.

how do you remove the ignition switch on a 1990 chevy half ton pick-up?
the ign switch or the key & tumbler ???
You have to take apart the steering column, remove the steering wheel, remove the ignition switch, and it's a pain in the butt.
YES
The knob you pull out is attached to the switch. To get the switch out, you will have to remove the panel underneath the dash, and some of the HVAC ductwork that runs underneath. Disconnect the battery. On the back of the switch, under the dash, there will be a little button you will have to push in to get the switch's shaft & knob to release from the switch. After that is done, you will be able to pull off the trim going around the face of the dash. It should just snap on. Then there will be a nut holding the switch to the dash. Remove the nut, the switch will come out the back, and then you can unplug it. Replace in reverse of these directions, only leave the swith shaft/knob for last. It will just push back into the new switch.
The ignition lock is where you put the key. The ignition switch is located on the top of the steering column directly above the brake pedal.
On the steering column????
Take it to a shop
