I have a 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue. The rearview mirror on my car has twin maplights, and on the back it says "Donnelly IE 8012001". I'm guessing the 2000 Intrigue uses the same parts. I just re-glued my mirror to the windshield after it fell off. Some other cars use a screw to attach the button to the mirror, but this mirror does not. Instead, I used a flat-head screwdriver to pry the button out of the mirror -- be careful to not to hurt yourself or the mirror. After prying the button out, I studied the mirror, and there doesn't appear to be any other way to remove the button. When gluing the button to the windshield, be careful to figure out which side and orientation the button needs to face before gluing it to the windshield.

Because you might want to place it in a different location, because of height of driver, or in my case , I own a driving school and we have to place another rearview mirror for our instructors. When we sell the cars we must remove the second mirror and the metal(baseplate) . I also would like to know a good way to remove this baseplate

I have no experience with removing the rearview on a Nissan specificially but on a ford the are some tiny holes you need to push something into in order to push the retaining clip away from the metal button. There are tools for this I found on the net that look like 2 prongs of a fork so I thought what the heck, bent back prong 2 and 4 of a decent length 4 prong metal fork and used that. Worked fine. I imagine if I had a small enough flat tip screw driver to stick in there it would have worked as well. It still takes a bit of force to pull the mirror off the button even with the clip depressed. Atleast it did for me.Here's another possibility: I just finished wrestling with removing the button from a Nissan Xterra rearview mirror. It has the wedge style button (beveled edges), rather than the channel style. At the bottom of the button I could see a small tab of spring steel. No matter what I did to the tab it wouldn't release the button. Finally, I took an old hack saw blade (you could probably use anything long and flat like that) and slid it in between the tab and the button from the bottom. Once you get in about .75" you'll bump up against the spring tab holding the button in. Push further against the spring with your hack saw blade and at the same time pull the mirror off the button. That's it! Once you get it off you see how simply it was being held on. Hope this saves someone else the time I wasted on this...Nissan 99 sentra: A thin metal shim jammed in under the button released the clip on the mirror button. I used a shim from a set of feeler gages/spark plug setting shims and jammed it in under the button as far as it would go to release the clip. There is a round depression that the clip is stuck in and the shim pushes it out of the depression. Button slid out easily after that. THANKS TO ORIGINAL POSTER OF THIS ANSWER...SAVED ME TIME AND FROM BREAKING THE DARN MIRROR FRAME/BUTTON HOLDER.

Insert a small pick under that little bit of metal and pull the metal away from the windshield then push the mirror bracket straight up and off the windshield. No, that didn't work. The little bit of metal doesn't move. However, brute force with needle nose pliers does.

On mine there was a hole going back under the button. I had to insert a very small screwdriver into the hole and and push it all the way back and put pressure against a piece of metal that was holding tension on the button keeping it in. I was then able to push the button out while holding pressure against the back of the hole.

I recently had to repair the rearview mirror on an '02 Nissan Xterra. It may be different, but perhaps it used the same technique. The mirror is connected to a metal "button" which is glued onto the windshield. In my case the glue had come undone and I had to remove the button from the mirror in order to re-affix it to the window. You can probably get the rearview off the button while still on the windshield in the same way. From the bottom of the housing there's a small notch where you can see the button and a small tab of spring steel. Use a hack saw blade or something else flat and long and slide it in between the tab and the button. Push it in around .75" until you bump up against another spring tab. Continue to push against it and it will release the lock. While pushing on it pull the mirror upwards off the button.
