If you are talking about the brake master, then remove this as a complete unit, and replace it as a complete unit. You do want your brakes to work the next time you need them...............
The master cylinder is behind the the speedo cluster, pull on the top cover of the cluster dash to access master cylinder. remove the screws the secure speedo cluster and unplug wire harness to light switch, dash lights ect. I used a turkey baster to remove brake fluid. using a metric open end wrench remove brake lines, then remove the to nuts off the servo that holds the master cylinder to the bus. I stuffed old rages in the dash around the master cylinder to catch fluids or nuts if they fell. Remove master cylinder by pulling it straight out of servo then once clear pull up and out of dash. Most replacement cylinder don't come with a reservior, use the old one by carefully and firmly "pop" it out and install in the replacement. reverse instructions to reinstall. once done fill master with clean DOT3 and then bleed brake lines.
The brake reservoir is located on top of the master cylinder on the drivers side. Remove driver's side incabin air filter by removing clip. Brake fluid reservior is directly underneath. When done filling, just clip the filter back and you're done.
First use the appropriate flare nut wrench to remove the brake lines from the master cylinder. Then remove any wiring connectors. Then remove the two nuts that hold the master cylinder to the brake booster and the master cylinder should come right off.
Unplug electrical connections Remove and cover brake lines Remove mounting bolts Remove master cylinder Install in reverse order BE SURE TO "BENCH" BLEED NEW MASTER CYLINDER PRIOR TO INSTALLATION
Remove clutch cable connection and then remove slave cylinder line from master. Then unbolt slave master and remove it. Follow same procedure in reverse order.
Begin by removing the brake lines. Remove the master cylinder retaining bolts. The master cylinder will come off. Reverse the process to install a new master cylinder.
Drain the brake fluid from the brake master cylinder reservoir. Remove the wiring harness from the brake cylinder. Remove the brake lines. Remove the brake cylinder retaining nuts. Reverse the process to install the new master brake cylinder.
remove the two nuts holding the master cylinder on the power brake booster
Disconnect brake lines Remove mounting bolts Remove Master cylinder Besure to "bench Bleed" new one prior to install
In order to replace the master cylinder with ABS attached to the master cylinder on a 1995 Grand Am you will need to complete the following steps: Disconnect the negative battery cable. Locate the master cylinder which is attached to the drivers side of the firewall. Remove the ABS brake line from the master cylinder using a wrench. Disconnect the fluid hose from the master cylinder using a wrench. Unscrew the nuts that hold the master cylinder in place. Remove the master cylinder and install a new one. Reattach the fluid hose to the master cylinder. Reattach the ABS brake line to the master cylinder. Tighten all the nuts and bolts and reconnect the negative battery cable.Once all of these steps have been completed you can be sure that your master cylinder has been properly replaced and is ready for use.
Remove and plug brake hydraulic lines Remove electrical sensor Remove mounting bolts Pull Master cylinder off activating rod BE SURE TO BENCH BLEED NEW MASTER CYLINDER PROR TO INSTALLATION Install in reverse order
Disconnect electrical connection Remove and cover brake lines Remove mounting bolts Pull Master cylinder off power booster Install in reverse order, but remember to BENCH BLEED master cylinder prior to installing
