dissconect neg cable of battery, make sure it cant come in contact w/neg term of battery then shift transaxle into neutral then disconnect the shift linkage then lift the t-latch out of the connector and unplug the connector u may have to remove the heatshield to get access then remove the attaching bolts and lift switch off the shift shaft then to install line up the flats of the shift shaft w/the flats in the shift and lower the switch onto the shaft then install the bolts...the remainder of the install is the reverse of the removal
On the 2000 the knob is on a spline on the shift lever. You'll either have to cut it off, or if you want to reuse it take out the lever by unscrewing the nut under the shaft, place the shaft in a vise and pound off the knob with a soft hammer.
I'm in the process right now. Comes out easy if the foot peg was not in the way. I will have to remove engine mounts to tilt engine to remove.
Tail Shaft is the section after the propeller shaft of a shift. Any shaft is always placed farthest from the head, where the power is applied.

Remove the shift linkage and the bolts that hold the switch to the side of the transmission then rotate the switch while removing it from the shaft.
