In order to replace the brake light assembly for the Toyota Camry 2007 to 2011, the bumper cover needs to be loosen. I just replaced my Car's passenger side brake light assembly, no matter what side it is, the method is same.
There are 2 screws right behind the wheel and 2 at the bottom, one of the bottom screw followed by the 2 behind the wheels ones holds the mud flapper. Unscrew all of these bolts the mud flap will come off, now do not force to pull the bumper yet ! there is one most critical hidden bolt located right in the plastic frame which holds the bumper with a body, which could be found in a 2" deep housing where the edge of the bumper ends at the wheel area, you need to unbolt it with a help of standard socket set tool with an extension bar of approx 4" length, now that side of bumper should easily come off, do the job with gentle pull by holding the cover edge with both hands.
Now get yourself at the trunk area, over the bumper cover there is a plastic cap, open it with a nail or screw driver, take the bolt out a set of 2 each at both side (right and left) open the trunk loose two bolts right inside the hook which holds the net bucket, and pull the plastic molding (this is just for the ease of job execution other wise with bits of trick one can skip this part and carry on with a job) the entire plastic molding will come out, if you think you are pro expert then open the third nut from the brake light assembly stud carefully with a help of fixed or ringed wrench and just forget this plastic job part.
After disengaging the power cables by pressing the plastic tab at each connecter, hold the assembly with both ends pull it towards you while tilting the upper edge towards you so the light bracket holding the edge of the bumper cover should come off, now you should have the entire assembly out....
Fix the new one with a same method, the grey light connecter will go in grey and the white in white one.
If you happened to take the molding out all the white tuck in plastic points should be placed in a detached plastic molding to be tucked back in.
The snapped out side of bumper cover all the way up to the light should tucked in by gentle push.
Please make sure not to tighten bolts too much as they have plastic housing at other points.
Hope this will help.
Faiz.
On a 2012 toyota Highlander, How do you replace tail light Assembly
I'm trying to find the answer for that on a 1997 Toyota Camry.
Replace the bulb that is burnt out.
To replace a light bulb in the map light on a 1996 Toyota Camry, the lens for the light has to be removed. There are clips at two opposite ends that have to be nudged gently with a flat screwdriver to get the lens cover off.
only toyota could be this stupid and incompetent...
This forum has some answers about the 98 Camry which may be similar. http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic155975.htm

Remove the tail light from the outside. Pulls out. Replace bulb. There is no access from the inside of the trunk.
I am not sure but I think you have to replace the oxygen sensor. Hope this help.
You normally gain access to the bulb from inside the trunk.
There should be a screw or two holding the directional assembly to the fender. The back of this assembly has a light bulb socket which usually comes out by turning it just a little to release the tabs on the socket from the slots in the assembly
