here is the basic steps, I don't consider myself a mechanic but found this job to be pretty easy. 1. Disconnect battery 2. Remove belt from alternator (much easier with belt tensioner tool that most part stores will lend) 3. Remove 2 bolts holding on alternator 4. Wiggle alternator out of place 5. place new alternator back where old one was 6. perform other steps in reverse order. (it helps to start by putting back the long bolt 1st then the short one.) When changing out the alternator it may be a good time to change out your serpentine belt if it needs to be done.

It should be the same, you're biggest problem will be kepping all the smog equipment ford is well known for their bellhousing. you may have to change the bellhouse from the trans. to the engine. you wont have to change the tranny, but you may have to change the bellhousing to match the 302 bolt pattern
