Replacing the egr valve is quite simple. the line at the bottom of the egr vave needs to be taken off first using an open end wrench.( be careful on this step if the line is broken it can sumtimes get costly) remove the two bolts on each side of the valve then simply swap it out. you might want to replace the gasket while you have it off. make sure when reasemmling it you start the line on the bottom before you but the other two bolts back in.
nope has to be the 32 valve engine
I would first replace the PCV valve as it may be simply stuck open.
The EGR valve on a 1979 F150 with a 302 is located in the center of the engine. It is close to the firewall.
The PCV valve on the 4.9L I6 engine is nearly impossible to see. It is located at the top of the valve cover near the rear of the engine forward a few inches from the center of the firewall. It is easier to see and reach it if you use a step stool.
The EGR valve, on a 2004 Ford F150 5.4 liter engine, is located on the top of the engine near the back. The valve is difficult to identify without prior mechanical knowledge.

you do not need to remove intake manifold to change valve cover gaskets. intake bolts to the block. valve covers bolt to the heads EDIT: Theirs some clearance issues but you can maneuver the valve cover out.
