Are you talking about the electronic ignition module or the ignition switch? The ignition module sits in the engine compartment and is part of the ignition system (coil, spark plugs, etc). The answer is no if this about what you're referring. The answer for the ignition switch will depend on the vehicle you have. Some, like late model Fords, you don't. Push in the retaining pin and the ignition switch comes right out (you still need a key though). Others you need to take off the steering wheel to replace the switch.
Remove cowling from under the steering wheel, remove the two nuts holding the wheel coloum. Drop the steering coloum. Ignition switch is about a foot down on the left side. Unhook the wires remove switch replace. P.S. Unhook battery cables high voltage in ignition system.

Customer Key Programming You can program new sentry keys to the system if you have two valid sentry keys by performing the following procedure: 1. Cut the additional Sentry Key Transponder blank(s) to match the ignition switch lock cylinder key code. 2. Insert the first valid key into the ignition switch and turn the ignition switch ON for at least 3 seconds but no longer than 15 seconds. Turn the ignition switch OFF and remove the first key. 3. Insert the second valid key and turn the ignition switch ON within 15 seconds. After ten seconds a chime will sound and the Theft Alarm Light will begin to flash. Turn the ignition switch OFF and remove the second key.
