How do you replace the PCV valve on a 1998 Toyota RAV 4?
The pcv valve is located in the cam cover of the engine. The cam cover is also where your oil filler cap is located. Look over to the right of the filler cap. You will see a grey plastic piece stuck into a rubber grommet in the cam cover. This is the pcv valve. Pull it out of it's grommet, remove the hose from the other end, and re-install in the same order. To make your new valve slide easily into the hose and grommet, just spit on the valve housing, being careful not to get it into the valve body. That's it!
The PCV valve is located on the top of the valve cover. To test the PCV valve, start the engine, pull the valve out of the valve cover and put your thumb over the hole in the end. If you hear a little click, then the PCV valve is good. If there is no vacuum at the hole, either the valve is bad or the hose is bad. To see if the hose is bad…
PCV valve is located in the valve cover. start engine, allow to idle. disconnect pcv valve from valve cover and feel for vaccum. If you feel vaccum good, if not trouble shoot system. Pcv valve dirty, hose clogged or cracked, etc. check the rubber grommet in valve cover for deteriation, replace if necessary. if the old pcv valve is clogged the the hose may be as well, clean w/ solvent. install new valve and reconnect.
