By ignition I assume you are referring to the key cylinder in the column.First you must remove the horn button to get to the steering wheel nut.Remove the clip,and nut.Then use a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel.Nex remove the plastic cover.Now using a lock plate tool(available at autozone,etc($15)remove the lock plate retaining ring.Remove the plate and horn plate.Next remove the screw for the trun signal arm,and the cam.Now remove the 3 screws for the turn signal assembly.Lift this up and over(as wires limit the range you can move it up)Now remove the key buzzer,under it you will either find a Phillips screw,or t25 screw.Remove this screw,and pull out the key cylinder.Installation is the reverse.
Retaining ring from the top of your 1979 Chevrolet Scottsdale ignition switch. Slide the switch out and remove the wiring harness. Reverse the process to install the new ignition switch.

The weight of a 1979 Chevy Silverado camper special with a 400 tyranny is about 3,342 lbs. In the years 1973-1979 the truck weight did not change.
The 1979 Chevy Silverado glove box latch is held in place with two retaining screws. Remove the retaining screws and the glove box latch will come off.
You will need to remove the retaining ring at the top of your 1979 Chevrolet El Camino ignition switch. The ignition switch will slide out. Remove the wiring harness. Reverse the process to install the new ignition switch.
Replace the tumbler assembly, it is broken.

Follow the large purple wire from the ignition swiych to the neutral safety switch or the clutch switch and check the power. You may not need to replace the ignition switch.

There is a lock ring on the inside of the dash where the switch connects. You need to remove this lock ring to remove the switch from the dash.
The impeller has probably broken a blade. You will need to replace the pump.
