From the spark plugs follow the wires to the distributor cap. Should be three screws holding it on. Remove the screws and cap will come off. Be careful to note where wires are connected to the distributor cap. You'll see the rotor after you remove the distributer cap. A round thing with a little metal piece on the edge, and in the center. This rotor has a set screw on the side of it to hold it on. Some use an Allen wrench, others use a Phillips screw. remove this and the rotor will come off. I found that I had to rotate the engine a little to make it accessable. Install in reverse order. Problems I had was, droping the set screw, while trying to reinstall. Hard to find amongst all that metal. Try to put something for it to fall into if you happen to drop it. Make sure to remove and install the plug wires on the right plugin. This was done on my 1990, I don't know your year so it may or may not be the same Good luck.Scott
a little 8 mill screw on bottom of rotor into dist shaft
Inside the distributor cap under the rotor
You should try to to replace you distributor cap and rotor, because over time it tends to wear off. Plus you should check the ignition coil. this should do the trick.
To change the brake rotors on a 1991 Honda Civic raise the vehicle. Remove the wheels and brake caliper bracket. Remove the brake pads. Loosen the rotor mounting screws and replace the rotors.

Replace the following parts: Ignition Wires Ignition Spark Plugs Distributor Cap and Rotor Pcv Valve Fuel Filter. Air Filter
The coil is located in the distributor internally. If you take the distributor cap off and unscrew the rotor it should become visible. You may have to move a dust cover, but it is in there.
there should be a Honda stamp on the inside center of the rotor
check and see if u have a hole in your muffler
Loosen the screws on the cap and there is a single screw holding the rotor to the shaft
It is located under your distributor cap, behind the rotor. There are two bolts on the side of the distributor that must be loosened, take off the three wires, and it will come right out.
