I have a 1996 Suburban which is the same body style. On the inside of the door there is a small, somewhat triangular shaped plastic panel that needs to be removed to get to the bolts that hold the mirror in place. With the tips of your fingers on the bottom of the triangular panel, push up (use a lot of force). This should snap the panel off without braking any pieces. Remove the foam piece from the hole and you'll see the wire and three bolts that need to be removed (a flashlight will help here). I used a 10mm socket wrench and open end wrench to get the nuts off of the bolts. Since the bolts are in a tight spot, I used the tools just to loosen the nuts and then took them off by hand. I used a telescopic magnet to ensure I didn't drop the bolts down inside the door as they came off. Disconnect the wire at the harness and the mirror should easily pull out from the outside. When putting the new mirrors on, put a small blob of grease on the nut to hold it in the socket or on your finger when you get it in that tight space.
Take the door panel off and there are 3 screws holding it on.
The 97 Chevy Suburban doesn't have a timing belt.
twist it out and twist in the new one or you can just replace the mirror
it depends on if the mirror is electric or not if it is then take the door panel off and then take the screws out of the mirror and the disconnect the wiring and the do the reverse to put new one on. if its not electrical the do the same except you don't have to unhook the wiring.

Take off the door panel and unbolt the mirror housing
the door hinges are welded so you have to use a small hammer and small punch to tap out the pins that look like big nails.
Pull our the black panel on the inside of the door, This is only held in place by a small clip.Unscrew the three bolts holding the mirror in place.Put in the new mirror and screw it inwithout overtightning. Snap thepanel back on. 15 minute job
