The transmission has to be removed to gain access to the clutch slave cylinder.
The slave cylinder is inside the trans. If you need to replace it you will have to pull the trans out. Its not that bad, its a afternoon though.

Replacing the clutch slave cylinder requires removing the transmission assembly. I would recommend purchasing a shop repair manual for that vehicle if you intend on DIY.

The slave cylinder on my s10 in on the driver side of the transmision. There are only 2 nuts that have to be removed to take the slave cylinder off. Then u must take out the pins to remove the clutch line.. Hope this helps
