How do you replace the starter in a 1995 Saturn SL1?
Remove the positive cable from your 1995 Saturn battery. Remove the cables from the starter. Remove the starter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new starter.
My son's 1999 Salvaged/total Saturn SL1 was rebuilt using many engine and body parts from 1995-1999 Saturn SL1 and SL2 cars, I believe it will work fine. I do not recommend before 1995 or 2000 or later models. I do not recommend SL2 either. I am not the expert but most of my son's engine is not 1999 SL1. Good luck!
Your best bet is to pay the $15 for a Chilton manual or go to the dealer for this type of question. I have the same problem on my 1998 SL1. The dealer said $1,200 and another non-dealer shop said $1,100. I said I will check out my Chilton manual. It seems very involved just to replace a gasket. But most of the work is done from top.
