I have had two Pathfinders (87 and 95) and have not attempted repalcing the water pump. It is a labor intensive job that requires removing the front half of the engine including the harmonic balancer. If you do attempt it yourself or have someone else do it you should also replace the thermostat and timing belt at the same time as it will cost no extra for labor, just parts. The dealer did the whole job a year ago for around $900 which included everything. Pricey I know.
