According to the Haynes manual #36071 for Ford/Mazda pickups, chapter 4 page 2 section 2, there is an inertia switch in the wiring which turns off the fuel pump in case of collision.
This is found in the Mazda "on the passenger's side of the transmission hump, under the carpet".
This is also used as a means to relieve pressure for servicing the fuel system.
If you unplug the inertia switch electrical connector, then crank the engine for 15 to 20 seconds, this will relieve the pressure on the system. After this you can open the system.
When finished, reconnect the connector and, this is the place where the question is answered, " push the reset button on the top of the switch (just in case it may have 'popped')."
