How do you start GM Alero 2004 Security light flashing and won't come off. Tried the procedure car key 10 min. in on position that in off but the light won't go off?

if it is like an 03 alero, you wont be able to start the car. to fix this problem you have to turn the key to the on position fand leave it on for 10 min. or until it stops flashing. then you should be able to turn off and then start car like normal.

If you're talking about on 01 Alero that's easy. Put the key in and turn it to the on position leave it for 10 minutes and then take the key out leave it for about 5 seconds and then try starting it. Note: make sure the security light has quit flashing on the dashboard. My alero has done this several times, and I've had friends try it in grand am's and this works too. it has something to do with resetting the system. Hope this helps you out.

IF YOUR BATTERY DIES I found the answer to this under Alero 2002 security system will not let you start the car with out leaving key on for 10 minutes then you turn the key off then it will start?and this worked for me too. My battery went dead and after a boost and several other things the car would still not start. I then tried the above (key in the ignition and turned to the on position for 10 - 15 minutes or until "Security" stops flashing on the instrument cluster) and it started right away. I believe with the PASSLOCK II TM system the resistance of the key must be read before the car will start. Thanks for the advice DD
