Yours probably has the same problem as mine...& that is the door handle has broken off inside. Mine has 2 broken tangs & so it will not work but it works inside.
I believe the original handle is riveted on. If so, you can drill out the rivet and use nut's and bolts to reattach.
Fuel filter sits on the inside rail just a foot from the drives door. undo the claps and reattach the new filter. Arrow in the filter goes to the front of the truck.

Open your door. Look at the edge of the door. There is a bolt just about even with the handle. Take that out and then remove the inside door panel. There should be a whole at on the inside even with the door handle, take that out and the handle should be lose. You will then have to take apart the clips that work the lock and door latch. Its not simple, but if you are half way mechanically incline you should be able to do it.
You first must take off the handle to see what your problem is. Most likely it is one of the plastic pieces that holds the release rods to the handle. To take the handle off there are three 14mm bolts on the inside of the tailgate.
A telescopic handle is a handle that extends from inside it's outer circumference and then contracts inside again.
Remove interior door panel. Check the rod from the latch to see that is attached to the outside handle. Reattach rod. The rod clip made may need to be replaced if it doesn't hold. This condition can be caused by someone breaking in or it was serviced and not installed properly.
On the inside of the cable (handle side) they are 2 (i believe) clip releases. You have to feel around and push the clips in to get the cable to release from the bracket.
I had the same thing happen. Try spraying with WD-40. It worked with mine. My husband took the handle apart when it was stuck in the extended position. He found the plastic piece inside broken on 1 side. This piece causes the handle to retract when you push the outside bar. I do not think crazy glue will hold up in repairing it. We are looking for a replacement handle.
The fuel filter on the 1997 Silverado is located inside of the fuel tank.
You can't remove just the inside handle. The handle is part of the door panel.
Stick a small screwdriver or other thin object into the inside of the ring around the interior door handle to pry the clips.
prybar Well first, remove the screw down in the closing handle, the pop off the piece of plastic around the inside door handle, remove the screw from in there, the grab the handle and pull straight up real hard. When removed, disconnect switched and door panel light.
Remove the armrest and pull handle. Gently pry and pull the trim panel away from the main door assembly. This will expose the workings and glass that "fell" inside your door. The bolts holding the glass to the regulator mechanism came loose. They're probably laying in the bottom of the door well. Feel around....you'll find 'em. Reattach the glass to the regulator. Snap the panel back into place. Reattach the door handle and armrest. Go for a Dairy Queen!!
Remove the door trim panel. Remove the inside door handle rod. Remove the inside door handle retaining rivets. Remove the inside door handle from the door by sliding the handle rearward.
