You have to take off the whole dash board to get to the center console!
There should be a switch for that in the center console.
The center console on a 1988 Honda Civic is mounted using several screws. Locate and remove all the mounting hardware to pull the center console off. After the screws are off gently pull the center console out.

The 1995 Pontiac Grand Am center console is held in place with for retaining bolts. Remove the shifter knob. Remove the center console retaining bolts. The center console will come off.
Take off the E-brake. It's in the center console.
First take off 4 screws at the bottom of the center console 2 on the driver side and 2 on the passenger side, by now the center console should be loose slide it a bit backward and take the shifter cable off the Floor sifter assembly, then take of the main window switches off, on the shifter assembly there is 4 bolts take them off and you are done.

Open the console door and start looking for bolts that need to come out that hold it to the floor, also the top plate of the console will have to come off and then you will see all the bolts that need to come out to take it out.

Well take out the Bin above or below it and look in the back for screws holding it in place then get a flexi head screw driver and remove then then it should slide out. Some people say to take off the center console and all this crap but my way is alot easier.

1) Remove the screws holding the center console in place. *Note: The center console is separated into 2 sections: The armrest, and where the stick shift is. 2) Carefully remove and unlatch where the two pieces connect and pull the armrest section out of the vehicle avoiding the E brake. 3) Remove either the shift boot from the shifter OR take off the shifting knob. 4) Carefully Pull the section out and above the cup holder. and that's it. then simply reverse the process to put it back on. i hope this helped
First you need to take off the molding around the top of the radio (use a screw drive and it will pop off). You will notice that this will take the "top-half" half off of the trim. Second there are two screws under the center console arm rest. Take those out and you be able to pop the rest of the trim to get to the light bulb installed. There is another way. You do not have to take the molding off the top of the radio. Put your flat blade screw driver under the lip of the console. You can see the space where it meets the top moulding. Lift the armrest cover. At the front you will see two screws. Remove them, then Gently pry up top of shifter console. Put brake on and shift into the center of the console. Remove the top of the console being careful of the two attached wires underneath. In my case, all I did was throughly clean the top with the shifter symbols and the underneath. It was dirty. I did not attempt to remove lamps. I put everything back to gether, it worked like a charm.
