Take out the bell housing bolts that bolt to the block. Then there are two guide pins that help align the bell housing bolts, all you have to do is, grab the tail housing of the transmission, and move it up and down, this should break look the guide pins and the tranny should come from. Make sure that the tranny is supported or it will fall on you. You should have someone helping you with a project like this if you are not sure what you are doing. Take care and be CAREFUL!
On the fire wall side of the motor, bolted to the bell housing of the transmission. If you take it off, be sure to disconnect the battery and take the wires off the solenoid. There are two bolts to unhook it from the bell housing. Mr Geo Metro leehduncan@verizon.net

The starter is located on the passenger side of the car attached by 2 bolts to the bell housing.
no, motor mounts are different as well as the transmission bell housing
No. Not at all. Leave the transmission bolted up front, only undo the motor mount at the bell housing. When you undo the bolts at the bell housing, you can separate the motor from the transmission and roll it out from the back.
On the right hand side of the transmission bell housing right behind where the clucth fork comes out
