Balancing in any form -- whether it be yoga, Martial Arts, other sports, or simply when one walks with correct posture -- benefits the body because it strengthens the smaller "stabilizing" muscles in the body. Most strengthening exercises are directed at the larger muscles, which is fine if you want to increase your gross strength. However, strengthening the smaller, "stabilizing" muscles enables the body to be more versitile, and allows a person to be able to do tasks that don't simply rely on gross strength.
