In order to answer this one, let's compare it to it's most important opponent: Islam. Christians state that it was started by a supernatural being who put aside his ultimate power and authority over everything and came to this earth to live in poverty in a country that was so miserable, and poor, and under tyrannical rule: Rome under Caesar. Jesus grew up, made some apostles and taught them, gained popularity with the people all throughout Israel as a remarkable teacher and then died on a cross because someone sold his life to the authorities for money, and then Jesus spent three days in hell while he never did anything wrong on earth. So he went from having authority in heaven, to suffering in hell, being punished for things he didn't do, but things that we've done, things that you've done, things that I've done, so that we can have hope to go to heaven. So Christianity is about extreme love and compassion over everyone, regardless of race, gender, what the people have done, because God created them too. Islam is different. Islam is widely known by Muslims to be created by a man named Muhammed some time after Christianity. The main belief here is that if you follow Allah, and if your good outways your bad, then you can get into their version of heaven. There are also other things you can do to get into this heaven. You can also kill innocent Christian children, Jews, and everyone else who opposes Islam. You can also walk around a giant man-made building to receive your reward from Allah. Islam actually started with ravaging villages of those who didn't believe in Islam, so the original Muslims were a group of thugs who killed people to spread their beliefs. The main distinction between these religions are that Christianity is about love, while Islam also promotes love, but Muslims have a duty to kill those who don't believe. The Crusades is a backwards picture of this though, because the Christians of England and France were on the offensive, but they were there to conquer the Middle East, and for that God made them unsuccessful. There are other religions that Christianity relates to also. It relates very much with Judaism. The main distinction between Christians and Jews is that the Jews believe in the Old Testament laws and are still waiting for Christ to come. Christians believe that he has already come, so they don't follow those laws anymore. (Christ took care of those laws) Hinduism is very different from all of these. The main belief behind this is to choose your way of life, and worship the gods that your lifestyle fits.

Islam is related in the sense that Muhammad had some dealings with a particular heretical sect of Christianity - which may explain the views he espoused relating to Christianity which do not agree with mainstream Christian thinking. Islam through the Koran also has mention of a number of the Old Testament patriarchs.

When talking about something being related it depends entirely on what is meant by that term and it can be variously defined. Yes, there are certainly similarities in both some of the ideas and concepts as well as the common personalities.

Sometimes these similarities and 'relatednesses' can be overstated and not balanced by a picture of the major differences which in fact exist in areas which are central to all these faiths. A good way to get a balanced view is to take a look into what each faith regards as their central doctrine and then compare them or to compare what each says about Jesus Christ of about God or about salvation - then the differences may become clearer as well as the areas of similarity.

The doctrine of sin in the 3 major Monotheistic religions may also be interesting in relation to this question. All 3 would agree that it exists. All 3 would believe in a literal fall (although they may state it a little differently). All 3 may have some similar statements about its consequences and extent (although there would start to be some major differences here) What radical differences would then appear would be in what each one has as the solution to this problem. This example shows that it is important when looking at relationships of thought to look at all the thought related to a particular area to get a balanced view of relationship.

Chronologically of course Judaism came first, followed by Christianity and then Islam. All three would claim their roots in 'the beginning' - and we could go on from here but we can see that this is a vast field here, literally hundreds of books having been written on it.

So in the first and now in this there certainly are 'relatednesses' - they can be historical or in thought or teaching or even in practice. What makes for such detailed and interesting study for those who are so inclined is to the question 'to what extent?' - to do this one has to be fair to both sides.

Most Christians believe that people of other faiths will go to hell, and that it is their duty to save everyone else, even Christians of another denomination.

In this pluralistic world, many Christians are starting to respect other religions (they're not going away) and see the unity of all faiths.

Christianity began within Judaism and was long considered by the contemporary pagans to be a sect of Judaism.
Islamic beliefs are based on Judaism, and Islam accepts Jesus as an important prophet, but not that he was divine.

Some scholars see some Christian beliefs as originating from Zoroastrianism. This does not mean that the two religions are formally related, but arguably does show that there may have been an exchange of ideas.
