why do my spark plugs smell like gas but the conductor is dry just the threads smell like gas and are also wet
ecu Remove spark plugs to see if they are wet or dry, wet, insufficient spark. Dry, insufficient fuel.
Easy fix, remove the spark plugs dry everything off. Then go to autozone and get a new valve cover gasket and replace it. This will solve the problem. By the way replace the 4 spark plugs at this time save you having to do it at some other time.
Fouling spark plugs can happen when the tip temperature is insufficient to burn off carbon, fuel, oil or other deposits and causes spark to leach to metal shell...no spark across plug gap will cause a misfire. Wet-fouled spark plugs must be changed as they won't fire. Dry-fouled spark plugs can sometimes be successfully cleaned by bringing the engine up to the operating temp.
Dry Soot Buildup on Spark PlugsOften dry soot is an indication of an "over-rich" fuel mixture ratio. The first thing you ought to try is to take your vehicle into a professional automotive repair shop and have them do a computer analysis of the fuel delivery system [carburetor or injector system] and properly adjust the fuel mixture.
remove spark plugs dry them with a cloth put them back in crank the engine take them out again look to see if they re wet and smell like fuel
PROBABLY SHORTING OUT THE SPARK PLUGS AND/OR SPARK PLUG WIRES. HAPPENED TOO ME SEVERAL TIMES. DRY THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP, SPARK PLUG WIRES AND CHECK IF THERE IS WATER IN THE SPARK PLUG CAVITIES.
Clean the contacts on the distributor rotor button, make sure they are dry and devoid of any lubricants. Check the spark gap dor the new plugs. Disconnect the fuel pump relay, take one spark plug out, connect the sparkplug to the sparkplug wire and hold the plug against the engine block or other strong metal surface. You want it to be grounded. Have someone then try to start the truck. If you can see a spark jumping within the sparkplug, you have ignition. Check all spark plugs this way if need be. If you have no spark, try replacing the coil. If you have a spark on all plugs, check for fuel pressure.
Depends on the type of flooding. Hopefully the gas flooded and not the water flooded. If it's flooded by gas try starting it with throttle wide open. If it doesn't work after a while, remove spark plugs and crank engine over for few seconds (remember to watch out for the spark) Install new spark plugs. If the engine is flooded from water, you will have to remove the spark plugs and crank on it for a while till all water comes out. *I have personal experience here* Install spark plugs and attempt to start, if not remove plugs and keep cranking. It may fire for a second or two. Keep removing spark plugs to dry them off and crank some more. Keep this up back and forth for a while, or till engine fires up.
Yes, it's overfueling, a common fault on this model. You need to take out the spark plugs and dry them, a hair drier will do it. Leave the plugs out for maybe an hour to allow the excess fuel to evaporate in the engine. Replace the plugs and try to start - do not touch the accelerator until it has started. Never stop the engine until it begins to warm up, at least five minutes, or until the temp gauge begins to move.
Possible problems: 1.Check the firing order of your ignition wires. 2.There could be a water inside of one of the spark plug socket, remove the spark plug and insert a clean dry cloth inside to dry-up the water.
